I have been a member of The WI for 20 years, and have loved every moment.
I first joined in my early thirties, when I had a short break from teaching to have my children. I loved the friendship and opportunities it afforded with such a diverse group of people, …. with some of my memorable events ranging from playing WI rounders on a summer’s evening followed by a splendid WI cream tea at sunset overlooking the Churnet Valley; singing ‘Jerusalem’ with 5,000 other WI members (including the Queen) in the Royal Albert Hall at the NFWI Centenary Meeting; and taking part in my WI’s production of‘Mamma MWIa’ as well as developing many new crafts and skills.
Having retired from teaching in 2008, I became a member of Broughton WI, near Eccleshall, serving many years as Secretary and Vice President. I am honoured to currently be the President in their Centenary year. I have enjoyed working with our members to overcome the challenges of Lockdown whilst working hard to grow our WI, and I am sure we will come through a stronger and more adaptable and continue to be a wonderful, fun-loving and supportive friendship group.
In 2011, I became a member of the SFWI Education and Environment sub-committee and in 2013, was thrilled to be asked to join the Board of Trustees and I took on the role as Chair of Education and Public Affairs sub committee and Facebook Editor. Since 2015, as SFWI Vice Chairman I have worked particularly on Strategic Planning and the Digital Future of SFWI, and am currently Chair of the newly formed Communications & Media sub-committee and Editor of the SFWI Facebook page and monthly News Bulletins.
I’m a keen gardener, artist and co-ordinator of the biennial Croxton Community Well Dressing Festival.
