I live in Alrewas, Staffordshire and am a member Shenstone Evening WI and Rolleston on Dove WI. My working life was in Health, workforce education and public service management. Like so many others I joined the WI to make friends, meet neighbours and to be part of an organisation that furthers women as individuals and as groups within society. I love the diversity and equality of the WI, it’s tolerance and friendship.
I was a WI President for 8 years and a member of the Federation County Show Sub Committee. I joined the Federation Board Of Trustees in 2015 and was elected Federation Chairman in 2017 and have been re-elected up to current times. The federation has implemented policies and many changes in the past few years as it has met the many challenges and changes needed to be fit for purpose in the modern world.
Just before the strange and difficult times we find ourselves in, I implemented a “ time for change “ project. The aim of this is to unpick all our policy and procedures, Sub Committees, included Looking at how and why we do things in a certain way. Can we be smarter? Do we meet modern WI ways and needs? From this we have put in place a new Communications and Media Sub Committee, a Press Officer and initiated many needed changes. This will of course will be an ongoing project.
My role as Chairman is busy, large and varied. If I was asked to sum it up I would say.
‘I am the leader of an extremely large team consisting of 2 staff members (whom I manage) 3 officers, 7 trustees, 100 plus WIs and around 4000 WI members. I am the caretaker along with the Trustees of The Cornerstone (Federation building) and the caretaker of Staffordshire Federation’s rich history. I am proud to be part of one of the largest women’s organisation.’
